Today I booted up my computer when i got home from school as i always do. Everything seemed to be fine intil i got to the sign on screen when out of nowhere my screen said Ato confrig. I thought Hmmm that is weird and thought nothing of it intill i got on to my windows desktop. Everything was now a pale color. the blacks were more of a grey and the blue was almost white and the writting was vary hard to see. Plus the white was so bright and everything is so pale that they all blended into one. I mean it is so bad that i cant even see my scroll bar on the side. So i thought i will just chek the desktop prefrences. Nothing had been changed in them yet the colors were diffrent. so i went to my Graphics card settings which i usally dont have to use to change my desktop settings and playd around with that.

The only way i could get it back to normal was by moving the Gama setting around. But I should not have to do that. Plus before I changed the Gama settings i cheked if it had effected my game and yes it did. Eveything looked foggy and dull in everygame i had, plus the screen was so off centerd in my games that i could not even play. so then i thought if the Gamma made everything normal on my desktop then maybe i could change this and it would change my game back to normal aswell, but it only fixed my desktop and made my games worse.

So i did a system restore thinking maybe it will restore my settings back to the way it was before this happend even though i had not tuched them and it did nothing.

So i dont know what to do, I have fooled around with all the settings including the screen it's self and nothing works it just stays the same. It is really bothering me that I can hardly read anything and everything is so pale, the white is so bright and my Games colors and screen resolution is messed up.

Dose anyone have idea what could be the problem, please dont say it is my graphics card cuase it is not that old. __________________

Ya i will have to try another screen tomorow. I mean it is so bad that i am using my other computer downstairs cause i cant stand the palenes and the brightness of the white. It is a flat screen plasma i beleive and it is about 3 years old. what is the life span on them, i think i was once told that they were around 3 to 5 years so it might be possible that the screen died, but why to only a certain extent why not the whole thing just die an and go blank.

Actually don't count out your video card. It is not entirely impossible for a card to crap out that soon. You'll definately know when you switch screens. You may even want to open it up, make sure it's got good contact with your mobo, and also make sure that the connections to the monitor is sound. Sometimes it's just one of those stupid things.

If you haven't touched anything software-wise, it's 90% certain to be a hardware issue. Check your VGA/DVI cable, and also that the card is securely seated in its slot. Also make sure that the card gets enough airflow, corrupted desktops can be a sign of overheating.

That said, Plasma screens do have a very short lifespan - most manufacturers estimate 3 years of useful service, give or take a few months. You'll know for sure once you plug in that other monitor.

I changed the screen last night and everything was normal agian on the Desktop and the colors were back to normal but now some of my games wont even open, could this be a cuase of me setting my Graphics card back to the default settings causing it to loose some of the driver updates ? if not then i have no clue what is going on hear.

No, the reason your games are not playing is your native resolution on that old screen cannot take your settings on your video card. Sounds like you have a bad monitor. Changing your settings, even going back to default does nothing to your drivers. They are on there until you remove them.
