I have heard plenty of good comments about Linux on the internet. Its also bee on the news latley. I was just wondering what is so "great" about this OS? What can it do better than Windows?
er... good question... well you can spend longer looking for a driver... but its a lot more stable than windows the only crashes i have had are trying to run ut on it but it doesnt crash out ut just vanishes... its good wen you start to get used to all the diferances but starting out with it can be daunting...
its got a lot of nice features as standered but i havent looked into them yet so i cant comment on wether they are good or bad, and its not bad for free (lets face it most "free" software now is full of spyware or ad's)
best thing about it is it shuts up all the idiots that moan about how bad windows is (windows isnt bad!) tell them to install linux and they shut up real quick lol
Most stable os out there. Think of it as comparing firefox to explorer. You can also use mech assult to put linux onto your xbox.
It tends to be cheaper, but can also be etirely free if you know enough about it. yea its definatly more stable, but can also do some weird thing on older comps especially prefab comps that originally came with window. ( for example i recently installed Mandrakelinux on my mother old Dell with a P3 450mhz, and really strange it just now randomly turned itself on. Yeah try tell about something weirder) Most distributions come with an entire office suite. and a membership to a website were you can download progs for free, some really good and some that are just beta works that also turn out to be really good. if your a gamer dont worry to much, many more game developers are also including a linux version to their games.
Hmm, I might have to test it out on a diffrent computer somtime
Also, most viruses that hit Windows platforms wont even touch linux.
Check out Knoppix if you wanna try Linux without touching your HD! It's fooking brilliant... runs entirely from the CD! There are several other CD-based OSes, but Knoppix is my fav.
Thanks I will give this a try.
I am also looking at some guides on how to install Linux on my 2nd harddrive and before the OS boots up I can select wich OS I want to use. Anyone else try this method? If so dose it create any problems or conflicts in the system?
You could buy another machine, one with Linux installed and keep your other one with Windows, and hook them up to the same monitor. You can switch between the two whenever...
ill tell you how good Linux is. i like it. thus, its great.
its a great OS. im thinkin about fixing up my other computer and puttin Linux on it. very fun to play around with. also, its freakin fast, and it isnt a ram whore.
