>Omen<;4551779That is not anywhere near true.

From [H] Enthusiast, "Comparing sizes, the Radeon HD 4870 X2 and GeForce GTX 280 are exactly the same length at 10.5 inches." [H] Enthusiast - AMD ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 Preview

...and btw that is exactly the same length all behemoth cards have been since the first of the long GPUs debuted back with the release of the 8800GTX. There's no way anyone making a card 12" long would sell enough of them to clear a decent profit.

:clueless: I did say "nearly"

so i was off by 1.5 inches...

10.5" is 'just over 10".' not 'nearly 12".'...

You beat me too it Bs. Anyway you cut it saying nearly 12" long, esp emphasizing the NEED for a full tower, is VERY misleading and nowhere near true as I said. Being off by 1.5" on a card that's 10.5" is an over 14% error. When building a system, that is what's referred to as a major oversight.

The Tech Discussion forum is about guiding people with accurate tech specs, not misleading them with wild speculation.

It's not like I had the technical specs in front of my face when I wrote that.

Well that's the obvious part, what you need to admit now is that it was wild speculation and very misleading. Don't you know many gamers come here seeking advice on what cases to buy and your words could have lead some of them to assume they need a case 1.5" deeper than they planned on (which eliminates some pretty good cases) had Bs and I not stepped in and clarified things?

Like I said, this is a Tech Discussion forum, not some speculative chat club.

Why not? If you can't be bothered to spend 30 seconds on Google checking your facts then save us all some hassle and don't bother giving people advice either.

I appreciate that sounds like I'm being a complete dick and/or nerd, so let me explain:

When you're giving someone advice, they will potentially spend their money based on that advice believing you to be an 'expert' or someone 'in the know'. If he were to go out and buy a full tower case believing that he can't fit a particular graphics card into it because of what you said, then finds out that it would actually fit in his old case, have you done any good? No.

Some smaller cases won't take a 4870X2, some will. You can pretty much forget most mATX cases as they normally have nasty things like drive bays covering parts of the motherboard. But with a lot of normal ATX cases the drive bays are kept clear of the motherboard (bearing in mind that an ATX motherboard can be 9.6" wide anyway), leaving the expansion slot area free of crap. If you've got a case that cost more than Ā£15 and isn't over 5 million years old it might even have a nice fan at the front to waft cool air towards your sweating graphics card.

Which means that:

1) You don't NEED a full tower case. Proper full tower cases provide more space than most people will ever, ever need.

2) If he has enough sense to measure his case rather than listen to your sweeping statement about needing a full tower, by exaggerating the length of the card you've screwed up his chances of checking if it will fit his current case.

To be honest, I never took size issues into consideration, but I also am not about to buy a PC either, so I don't really need to take it into consideration. I am also the cheap type that would cut un-needed drive bays off with a hacksaw, or even build my own case before I bought a new one, not to mention I have several nice sized cases that should easily fit everything inside.
