I'm NOT asking where to get hold of them or anything to break the rules of this forum, but I wanted to know has this happened in the past to like Windows XP when everyone was still running older OSes before XP was released? I don't remember it being that way. And besides why would you even want a leaked [probably terribly buggy] version of Vista? I've seen versions at 3.16 gb so they're really big. Does that even make sense, an OS that huge?!
It happens a lot. Even with games and the like it's often the case that it's out for download before it's available in the shops. In the case of Windows OSes it's fairly simple to guess how they get out. MSDN, (Microsoft Developer's Network,) has pre-release versions of Vista and the like so that developers can program for it and MS doesn't have to go: "Sorry guys, we fucked up really really bad and there's no new software for our OS. We're so so sorry, guess we just suck at life." The flip side of this is, of-course, that someone just has to upload it to a server and pass a link around.
What about the size, 3.16 gb? That's huge! What's taking up that much room?

XP is about 2GB I think. Plus Microsoft just like to make big OSes, Win 95 was under 1GB.
My, how it's grown....
Windows is just bloat-ware, you don't get 3 gigs worth of functionality. Personally I put it down to sloppy programing, extras that are hardly ever used and poor optimisation.
I think Vista will be pretty much unused for the first few months. I have a couple of questions for anyone who knows the answer. 1. Will we be able to run our beloved XP games on it? 2. What new things does it bring to the metophorical table? 3. I heard estimates of something like 50-100$ for it, does anyone have a more accurate price? I can't believe that they are releasing Halo 2 solely on Vista, methinks they have killed the game before it has even come out...

Direct X-10, that god-awful 3d interface, the ability to alter the bios from inside the OS, things like that. But it doesn't really bring anything completely new in concept to the table as I see it. The largest thing is DRM and frankly I'll wait until someone removes it from the system before I touch Vista with a ten foot beta-pole.

I heard we couldnt play xp games on it :(. Then again I could be wrong.
Half life 2 was leaked and it costed valve 700,000 in dollars.
With the ammount of games that would become redundant, Windows would have bricks fling through their windows (no pun intended). And then no one would buy Vista. Think about it, most users are hardcore gamers.
Vista is apparently much more game friendly as well.
It's a better built, more able XP pretty much.
That horrible interface has me scared though. Hopefully some themes will come with it.
