general rammelHalf life 2 was leaked and it costed valve 700,000 in dollars.

Piracy figures are massively overinflated. Just because 700,000 dollars worth of software was downloaded it doesn't follow that 700,000 dollars worth of software would have been bought if the option for pirated copies was not there. Frankly you may as well look at the bottom of a tea cup and attempt to work out how much it has cost from the soggy crap left after your drink as you can trust the official figures on that sort of thing.

On the size.

Speaking from, uh.. 'experiance', it is large because the Betas include a lot of drivers for about every device ever made so they will work with the Vista beta. Well except for the parralel port Zip drives.

question........

since Vista is built from the ground up (aka nothing from XP is left over)

Will there be the cheaper upgrade versions

I remember you could buy the full XP, and then the "upgrade" XP if you had 95, ME, or 2000

I don't think so, just the 7 versions listed here: http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/winvista_editions.asp

I suppose you'd be able to upgrade. My copy of XP allows me to do both a clean installation and an upgrade from a previous OS, so I guess they'd add that in, but we'll have to wait for release to see.

The Vista site also states that the operating system will be available in five versions: Business, Enterprise, Home Basic, Home Premium, and Ultimate.

Guess it's five now. The proposed Starter edition sounded like complete shite anyway if you look at the chart in the link I gave, even if it was proposed for low-end PCs.
