I'm looking to boost up my alien were. Right now I have a Nvidia Geforce FX 5200 ULTRA...I have a 420 watt powersupply, 1 gig ram... So I know I'm going to have to spend a little money on the powersupply+vidcard

anyways I was looking at this card

HIS Hightech H195PRQT512DDN-R Radeon X1950PRO 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 IceQ Turbo HDCP Video Card - Retail

and this one

Newegg.com - BFG Tech BFGE86256GTSOCE GeForce 8600GTS 256MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 OC HDCP Video Card - Retail

BFG Tech BFGE86256GTSOCE GeForce 8600GTS 256MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 OC HDCP Video Card - Retail

could you tell me if these are good choices? what kind of power supply will be needed for these? And recommend any cards you think are better

thanks :]

Both look like good choices, although the 1950 is the faster of the two at the moment, and a very good buy. However if you are currently using a 5200 ultra it means your pc has an AGP slot. In which case you need to be looking at a card like this Newegg.com - GECUBE HX195XTGA3-D3 (R) Radeon X1950XT 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 AGP 8X HDCP Video Card - Retail

Stick another gig of ram in your system and dependant on your processor you should be set for a while. Your PSU should be fine at 420w with that card.

You could save a few quid and get a 256 mb version and you wouldnt notice any difference in real terms. I would put another gig of ram in there too or youd be putting a ferrari engine inside a ford escort.

nvm, didnt read full post thanks :P

The 1950pro is probably your best bet at the moment.

As Undies point out above, the best AGP card in existence is the GeCube X1950XT. you can get it at newegg for $259.
