Common, I know you guys will buy yourself something for xmas. I plan on doing that! I got this crappy ass Radeon x300 128mb. its garbage! good for simple stuff like email and older games, but its not compairing to newer games! so, i thinking of buying a new video card for xmas. Also note i am probably going to build a new rig in a year or so anyways so, should i cheap out and get this? http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1638812&CatId=1560 I know the x550 is a x300 on steroids, but i hear good reviews from it or sometihng like this http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1580873&CatId=0 or this http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1565875&CatId=0 or spend a little more money get get sometihng with more muscle? like this? http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1161197&CatId=0 or this http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1645784&CatId=0 or maybe this? http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1646809&CatId=1826 there is also a 6600 verson of this, but its made by Diablotek, and i know they are not noted for quality I know i probably just totally ruined my rep here for atleast pretending to know what i am talking about, but when it comes for stuff for me, i can never make up my mind

Dude don't get the X550, the X300 and X550 are basically the same card with the X550 having 128bit memory and higher clocks. i have a Dell 8400 same as you with the X300 128MB, And i can overclock it to near X550 speeds with no artifacting at all. I can clock it at 401Mhz Core / 475Mhz Memory, a X550 is clocked at 400/500. (i use ATI Tray tools).

For best bang for you buck i would go with a X800GTO or a 6800GS.

I still say go for a X800GTO, you can get them for $170-$180 and they perform great for the price, almost as good as a 6800GS. From all the benchmarks i've seen the 6800XT don't do much better or in some cases worse than a 6600GT.

Dual core? I only see Dual DVI, it has 2 DVI connectors and Dsub adapters, but Dual Core means it has 2 cores - It would be pretty much the same as 2x 6800GTs in SLI, on the one card. This one is not it, but is quite a nice card, and supports SLI so you can add another one later...

The XT is quite a bit slower than a GT though, mine is at 350core/500 compared to the 325 core and ... unlisted memory clock. It has "dual 400mhz RAMDAC" which is what I think you saw as memory, which is pretty much meaningless performance-wise.
