the G5 is a corded mouse so no battery problems there, i used to have an mx1000 and tho it was a good mouse it was heavy and occasionally i would forget to put it back in the base to recharge which was annoying if i wanted to play a game. i now have the G7 which has 2 batteries that can be swapped while using the mouse solving the battery problem. the G5 andG7 are identical except for the G5 being corded. i tried both and stuck with the G7 as i am so used to cordless mice that i dont like cords any more. the main advantage of the G5/7 is that you can change the resolution as you play for better accuracy, something that cant be done with the mx1000.also you dont really need a mat as they will work on pretty much any surface. basically if you want a corded mouse get the G5, the G7 is expensive for a mouse, but is very good IMO

I agree completely. I prefer the rocker style buttons on the MX1000 over the rounded buttons on the G7. I would also miss the forward and back buttons and the cruise up and down buttons.

i also use a nostromo gamepad instead of a keyboard, had it 6 months now and if i go to a friends house and try some of his games i get confused as hell using a keyboard, definitely speeds up reaction time. i would recomend something like that, i saw that saitek have got something similar now

like this:- http://www.saitek.com/uk/prod/progamer.htm

i have this:- http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Merchant_Id=&Section_Id=2071&pcount=&Product_Id=157024

Thinking about it.

I'd say go with the Logitech G5. I've heard good things about that mouse.

Personally, I use a Logitech wireless mouse and a Saitek Gamer's Keyboard with a command pad. Works great.

Ok the "chase" is over.First of all i should say that the mx 518 owners are indeed proud of their mouse. It is a very nice product feels good moves very good. But after a fwe hours of playing i choose G5.It is superb, it has a better grip, the weight cartrige is indeed a very good feature and the Polytetrafluoroethylene feet is indeed worth to be cheared.Since i don't use the side buttons the mising button (mx 518 has two side buttons and G5 has only one) is not such a big deal.It is compensating with the tilt weel design. The fact that you cand change the resolution of the x and y axis is indeed very neet and helpfull. Overall G5 is better than Mx 518 IMHO. Best regards, Alex
