My buddy's computer bit the dust this weekend, he had a Dell Demension 2400. He want me to build him a new computer but has a limited budget $350 usd. I have pretty much picked the parts that he would need but need some advice on the processer out of these two which would be better or is there a better choice. The motherboard i picked was a Gigabyte K8ns socket 754 so id like to stick with 754 but am open to suggestions.
I have read that Semprons are really not for gaming is this true
Anyway any advice would be helpful and the budget is fixed so I cant make any big changes, Believe me if it were me I would save some more money up, but he wont listen to me
Without a doubt, get the Athlon 64 3000+. You're talking $2 more for the same clock speed and FSB, but with double the L2 cache and a way newer core.
Yes. The Athlon, definately. You will not regret it.
Your friend will regret spending $350 on a computer instead of saving up a little longer though.

I know i keep telling him that but he is an idiot, I tried to convince him to wait but its his money. He gets what he pays for
Thanks for the input
What are you able to salvage from the old pc?
I dont know i havent seen it yet, Im almost positve the hard drive is shot, plus would any of it be worth keeping. He got it in 2000 and its a Dell

They all use the same parts. The RAM may very well be worth keeping, and if the processor still works its definately a keeper (you'll need to get a socket 478 motherboard to re-use that though).
Exactly what part(s) stopped working? You might just try replacing some of the indvidual parts instead of totally rebuilding his PC.
