I gotta say avast! is a really good program and it is free. I haven't had hardly near the problems I used to since switching over to avast!. runs circles around Norton anyway.

That's the problem with subscription antivirus programs these days; you don't always get what you pay for. Avast! and Avira are both free, and are loads better than Norton or McAfee. I recommend one of those two.

Avast is great. I've been using it for about a year and I have zero problems. Kasperkey is also good I have a friend who uses it and he tells me it's one of the best.

Avast! is very good. But if you're set on a professional program, then either Kaspersky or NOD32. Those are the leaders in antivirus programs at the moment. The better-known ones like Norton and McAfee don't really merit a mention against those two.

Agreeing with Pedantic. Of the paid-for, professional ones, I prefer NOD32. Avast! is definitely the best free program. It's pretty light too on recourses. Norton in comparison is awful! It'll also give your a crapload of false positives.

I bought McAfee a while back when I bought this laptop, the subscription eventually run out. Didn't bother me too much as I planned on reformatting and getting an free (aVast) AV instead. But I noticed it wouldn't even perform scans anymore. That it won't update is one thing but why won't it scan? That's just silly. It's like buying a car with service/warranty support, and after those run out you can't even use your car anymore. :uhm: I bought the prodcut, shouldn't I be able to perform scans (even if they are "outdated") for aslong as I like?

So no way I'll be going back to either Norton or McAfee. =p If I'd go for a proffesional AV again I'd probably try out Kaspersky.
