Because "Gamers" are willing to pay so dang much. Many of the people in these forums, are part of the problem. I just wish I could afford more, myself. A 256mb 6600GT sure sounds nice.

You should have been around when 486s costed several thousands of dollars. Gigahertz PCs have dropped below $500 now, and they are over 300 times as fast. Actually, Gigahertz PCs have dropped below $100 here in Georgia (256mb Ram, not including monitor).

I would say that is pretty darn cheap.

I agree with Monster_User, its actually quite cheap. If it isnt, your either looking in the wrong places or looking at the latest and fanciest models. Never get the latest releases within a series of products.

Top end kit costs a lot because it's top-notch, and people will pay it (and nevermind the millions spent on R&D to create it). Older, lesser, kit is considerably cheaper. Sometimes even free.

It's the video cards that cost the moola. You are 15 so these things are going to seem pricey to you. Once you have a flow of money coming in it's a drop in the bucket. Like was said, be lucky you were not a gamer some years back. We have it made today.

Computer gaming is the most expensive form of gaming right now. It has been since games came to computers. They are also alot more capable than current generation consoles. You can't run fire fox and MSN messenger or Battlefield 2 on a PS2 or xbox. I just dropped $300 on a 6800gt about a month ago. You can get a good gaming computer for about $1000 now.

I dont know how much you make but when your having to pay bills and getting a car and rent or morgage and all of those things, it is NOT a drop in the bucket. Who can just pay $700-$800 for a video card or $1900-$3000 easily for a new computer(other than rich people)?:uhm: I also think the price of computers will kill them over time(like now ps2 games out sell pc games for about the last year here) ,why would you pay $2500 for a new gaming computer when you can get an xbox360 or ps3 that has the same power as a good computer but with a price tag of like $450?

Of course it depends on how much you make. Most people make enough money to save up for these things, unless you blow your money on partying and such ;) You don't have to be rich to afford a good PC. If you are on a budget you simply do not buy something else that you want and save.

Don't compare a console to a gaming PC, please for my sanity.

i think it is a combination of 2 things: 1. People are willing to pay it, so why cahrge as much as you can? 2. R&D, its amazingly expensive, sony/ibm/toshiba spent 1+ billion on R&D on the cell chip, so thats an other reason why its so expensive.

Pethegreatâ„¢Computer gaming is the most expensive form of gaming right now.

I think the actual computer is the most expensive part, at my local Walmart (don't get me started on walmart....) games on computer are probably around a average of $15 cheaper than the ones on Xbox or PS2.
