so new build is upcoming planned on getting a 5870 for $380 AUD but i see the 6870 are out now i can get one for $280 AUD is the 6870 better in anyway? is the extra $100 for the 5870 worth it for the extra performance?
also since the new nvidia cards are coming out will the prices of the 480 or 5870 drop in anyway?
No, it's not worth it. The 5870 is faster, but not by much. The 6870 is also cooler, quieter, and uses less power, though.
Alright thanks. Are they releasing a 6970 to replace the 5970 any time soon does anyone know?
Dunno when, but yes. As well as a 6990.
Ive had a search round the Internets and found a site saying 580 is being released on Nov 9 and the 6950 and 6970 will be coming out around last week of Nov and another site saying Dec so i guess i might have to wait a little while longer to choose a card
If you have the money for it, it's likely the 580 will be the top single GPU this round.
Prices will drop after new cards launch.
You sure about that daed? If you notice the scaling from 5770 to 6870 its in the ballpark of 50-60% faster. Now if that translates to the high-end as well things should get rather interesting if this refined chip can pump out the megahurtzzzz.
I'm hoping i can find another 470 crazy cheap for some SLI fun after the new cards are out. =p
I'm really tossing up between another 480 or a 580. I'll be waiting for reviews, but I think I should be able to get a 580 on the cheap, and selling my 480, I should only be out about €100, hopefully.
Doc., pick up some WC gear instead. =p

I wouldn't trust anything saying the 580 will be out before or even at the same time as the 6000s. More likely at least a month later. Best we can hope for I think is a Nov 6000 launch and sometime in Dec for the 580.
