I,m in need of a graffix card up-grade to play FarCry and Doom3 at a decent level.

My sys specs are:

AMD Athlon XP2600+ 512mb DDR Nvidia GeForce FX5200 128mb

The card i was thinking of getting is the ATI Radeon 9600XT 256MB DDR.

Is this just an item for my wish list ??

Not a bad card for under $200.00, but I'd go for the 9800 PRo at minimum, if not the Xseries for Doom3 type games. Also adding another 512 stick of 3200 RAM would be wise ;)

Go nVidia, Doom 3 is optimized for it.

Besides, ATI's drivers are TERRIBLE :p

There is nothing wrong with ATI's current drivers. Saying to get a nvid card because D3 is optimized for it is just to funny

The 9800 PRo at minimum is only 128mb DDR so thats less than the 9600XT, so is the 9800 better ???

And have you seen the prices of the X series

The 9600 XT is only 128 BIT if I am correct, the 9800 PRO (mostof them) are 256 bit. I would ratrher have the faster 9800 PRO with 128 megs than the 9600 XT with 256 megs. 9600 XT can be had for about $150.00 + , it's cheaper than the 9800 PRO. Thats just my opinion, what does everyone else think?

The x-series cards are pricey, but I bet the eye candy is worth every penny :)
