These wipe and relod disks were originally from my friend becuase his computer stopped working. They have windows xp pro on them and so does my laptop. But will it work? Does my laptop need special a laptop windows or can I just use them with no real harm done. (If you want the full story go to http://http://www.gamingforums.com/showthread.php?t=277439)
Depends what disc it is. If it's a normal Windows disc, then fine - no problem. If it's a recovery disc designed for your friend's computer then no, it will only work with that model line from that company, ie not your laptop.
You need either a standard Windows CD, recovery CDs from the manufacturer of YOUR hardware, or the manufacturer may have placed a recovery partition on your hard drive.
Exactly what Archaon said.
Hhhmmmm...Well I dunno his computers are both hp and so is my laptop. The first disc wipes your hard drive clean and it reloads windows xp pro. I dunno what the other two do... Well, if all else fails how much does windows cost?

Newegg is selling the OEM version of XP Pro SP2 for $139, and OEM XP Home for $89.99
Ok, I see then.

A lot of HP's made in the past four or so years come with 'recovery partitions' that allow you to format your hard drive, and reinstall the OS all without the use of a disc.
Well his computers don't come with that but I know my laptop does. The recovery software is called Altiris. And I cant exclude any .dll files. The internet filter has tons of them. Those are the ones I tried to move and delete and the internet stopped working. So I guess that the recovery thingy is out of the question. (it was to confusing anyway)
The recovery partition just replaces your old windows folder with a new one.
Boot into safe mode by pressing F8 Then go to your SYSTEM RESTORE and restore it back to before you messed it up.
OK, best be burning some saved games to a CD then. Thank for the help.
