my computer is regularly shutting down windows explorer. unfortunately imageshack aint workin right now so i cant show you an image of the message, but it looks kinda like this.

it is labeled "Data Exectuion Prevention - Microsocft Windows"

and it says "to help protect your computer, Windows has closed this program. Name: Windows Explorer Publisher: Microsoft Corporation"

it then goes on to tell me that it is doing this to prevent the spread of a virus but my virus scan has detected nothing (and yes i have had it scan the entire computer).

thanks for the help.

Are you doing anything specific when this happens?

Plus, there is something you can try, but I don't really suggest this as it lowers your computers security, anyway...

1) Click the Start Button 2) Right-click on 'My Computer' 3) Click the 'Advanced' tab 4) Click on 'Settings' under 'Performance' 5) Click on the 'Data Execution Prevention' tab 6) Click the radio button next to 'Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select 7) Click the 'Add' button 8) Select 'explorer.exe' in 'C:\Windows\explorer.exe' 9) Click 'OK' on the box that pops up. 10) Click 'Apply' 11) Click 'OK' or close open windows.

That should... I think... help you. But as I said I really don't suggest doing that and I would only advise it as a last resort. I don't know much about this problem so wait for others to reply.

When you scan your computer for viruses are you in safe mode? If not then you might as well not be doing it, because viruses these days really know how to hide themselves.

I believe it's F8 when booting, which will give you a number of options.
