You are probably missing the required codecs.

DivX

XviD(on fileplanet, i couldn't find the right download on their homepage)

XviD is an MPEG codec, but it'd be a good idea to have it if you didn't install it already.

its a bad idea just to download random codecs like that it can really F*** things up

try this app:

http://www.headbands.com/gspot/

then open up whatever video is giving you problems and it will tell you what codec it needs and if you already have it or not

Random codecs? DivX and XviD are the most commonly used codecs for videos. People use them if they want some real compression.

so what if they are common? they're still random codecs

we dont know what codecs he already has on it and it might cause compatibility problems or something is worng with what he has already

gspot is the only way to make sure.... it could be a corrupted file for all we know

As WW2dude said it's a very common codec, the fact that it's common leads you to assume that it's compatible with most other codecs. I personally use DivX and I've never had any compatability problems or infact any other problems with it =P

Then it's not a problem with windows media player, update you're drivers and see if that makes a difference.

errr drivers? what does that have to do with anything again? did you try gspot yet? It would tell you if anything is worng with your codecs amoung other problems that can happen...

and since re-installing didnt help you should just delete all of your codecs

Drivers, sound drivers =P If it's not a problmem with WMP then it could be a problem with out of date drivers, it's a possiblity as of such.
