The best way of doing this, is first of all installing the UXTheme.dll patch (this unlocks the windows skinning engine protection so you can use third party themes);

http://www.softpedia.com/get/Desktop-Enhancements/Themes/UXTheme-Patch-For-Windows-XP-SP2-Final.shtml

Once this is done, you can download new themes from DeviantArt;

http://browse.deviantart.com/skins/windows/visualstyle/?view=1&order=5&limit=24

This is the best way to do it because your using the Windows XP skinning engine that your already using (for Windows XP) and so your using absaloutly NO extra resources. Some people I will bet will reccomend WindowBlinds but that will slow your system down and is just "covering up" the default Windows shell.

IMO, it would be better to forget tweaking the OS shell yourself and let someone else do the job. Meaning: getting a real skin/theme program. Personally, I can recommend WindowBlinds and the skins available at wincustomize.com. Taking my own desktop as an example, THIS is what you can get.

Installing it is done the same way as with all other programs and you can find a trial from stardock.com or one of the torrent sites.

You simply put the theme in c:\windows\resources\themes

An then you select it like any other theme by right clicking the desktop > properties ect.

IMO, it would be better to forget tweaking the OS shell yourself and let someone else do the job. Meaning: getting a real skin/theme program.

Lol, as I already lined out, WindowBlinds, asside from not being free, is not a "Real" skin program, it's just a resource-whoring "paint over the top" job. Windows has a built in skin system you can make full use of and get better looking skins from.

I have no idea what your doing but if you've run UXTheme.dll patch properly, restarted, then put the themes you've downloaded in your resources folder following the structure of the other themes (luna) already in there, it'll work.
