For some time now my Windows refused to install new updates since Oktober 2008. Today I finally had enough of it and decided to format Windows and re-install it completely again. And so I did. I hoped this would be the solution to my problem, but it only got worse: Windows update downloaded and tried to install 73 updates but failed all of them. I then google'd for a solution and found out that the problem could be solved by deleting files within my Computer>Local station>Windows>SoftwareDistribution>Downloads and by rebooting. I followed this instruction and rebooted, even making sure windows defender was shut off to prevent the program from causing problems. Windows Update now installs some updates but still fails every security update. To make things worse it also seems to be stuck trying to install Microsoft.net framework 3.5 service pack 1. Seeing how I'm using a completely fresh and clean install of Windows without any programs installed, I am completely losed on what to do now. My system: Windows Vista Home Premium (Dutch) Acer 5920G (Intel Duo T5500 ~ 1,83Ghz, 4Gb DDR2, Nvidia 8600M GT) [Edit] I added a screenshot of my update screen; ''Mistlukt'' standing for ''Failed''.
Could it be a problem with your computer downloading updates prehaps, ports etc? i know that i once wasnt able to update due to my routers mtu settings. Unless you have the files already of course, but then im pretty clueless xD Hope you find a solution.
I don't know about that, Windows Update does actually download all of the updates but fails to install the security updates for vista. Some other updates such as a Definition update for windows Defender get installed successfully.
This is one of those instances where you may need to Phone Microsoft for their ever stellar " support" .... lol ...
This happened to me as well for one or two updates to be honest.
Is it refusing all or just some? My personal theory is, that it keeps trying to install and download the default one which lacks language support for the vista you're using and as such fails.
You could maybe try downloading sp 1 executable. It might be able to install as opposed to the one from the update service and resolve most of your issues.
