I am going to build a new computer soon with an Athlon64 processor. I was going to buy XP Home for it before I remembered someone telling me that there was a Windows XP 64-bit Edition. I looked on the Microsoft site, and all I could find was some software trials for 64-bit archetecture. Does anyone know if there is indeed a Windows XP 64-bit Edition, and how much it costs. The person who told me also said that the OS was free if you already had an XP licence, which I have. Thanks.
im certain that there is a 64-bit windows xp patch, and ive heard you get a 360 day trial, could be rong, but i dont think the full version of 64-bit windows,
off topic: wat athlon64 you gettin?
Yes I read about a 360 day trial but I think that was some sort of software. Could have been it...
I am getting the AMD Athlon64 3200+ I think.

Reven I am getting the AMD Athlon64 3200+ I think.
Nice choice....I have one of those, can handle anything i've thrown at it, but I think I'm just using Windows XP normal version......though It might be a 64-bit version :uhm:
stupid people... you don't even know if your currently running Windows XP 64-bit Edition or not. Shouldn't you know? By the way if you have a 64-bit processor, and you only have Windows XP 32-bit, it will run alot slower on a 64-bit processor because it has to convert into 32-bit....

unreal3xstupid people... you don't even know if your currently running Windows XP 64-bit Edition or not. Shouldn't you know? By the way if you have a 64-bit processor, and you only have Windows XP 32-bit, it will run alot slower on a 64-bit processor because it has to convert into 32-bit....
wow, since you called people stupid, I'll call you stupid as well... you will not get horrid performance running a 64-bit processor with 32-bit programs. If you knew what you were talking about instead of wasting space on my forum, you'd realize and read that running 32 bit applications with a 64-bit processor won't give you astronomical increase in performance, but because of the way the amd 64 processor is designed, you will get noticable performance boosts with applications, mainly because the bus speed is the same speed as the processor because it resides on-die, and not using a seperate processor to transfer between the memory and cpu for that task. Instead of coming into this forum acting like you're better than others, take it into consideration that you're retarded compared to a much larger user base. If you're not helpful and going to troll here, then I'll just keep making you look like a fool. Understand?

PWNED!!!:0wned:
^ Yeah ^^ :D
The is a Windows XP 64-bit edition, its the "Pre-release" version though.
If Windows XP 64-bit edition is out, it just came out this month. So it is almost certain you don't have Windows XP 64-bit. I am very certain that it is not out, becuase the XP 64-bit site still has Pre-Release demos for download.
Following Microsft's previous OS release pattern, one can assume the following about Windows XP 64-bit.
1. Pre-Release versions will be hacked for unlimited use, but have limited compatiblity, and are more unstable.
2. Windows 64-bit edition will be released, and then later there will be the 64-bit upgrade for Windows XP. This upgrade will cost a minimum of $60.
3. WinXP 64-bit edition will likely cost $300+ and not be availible in a home version, for some time. When it does it will be marginally cheaper than the regular (renamed "Pro" edition) version of the software.
4. WinXP 64-bit will be marginally more secure than WinXP, except in the likely event that Microsoft tries out a new connectivity setup. Then it may be less secure.
The XP 64 bit edition is not officially out but it has leaked on the internet. (why do you think intel isn't offering 64 bit chips yet = no software)
I think its comming out early March.
