My friend told me to get Windows XP Pro because the load times are faster than Home and it runs games better. I was just wondering which version I should use if I'm going to be gaming, because I don't wanna buy Pro and have the games run worse than if it were on Home edition.

Pro, because home doesnt have all the features that pro does. (then again, if you dont know alot about windows anyways, you wont use them) :D

Here are a few comparison charts.

Home does not come with Multiprocessor support. So it will probably not be able to fully support Dual Core processors.

Security features are very lax, giving any created user Administrative priviledges. Plus the Home version has the guest enabled by default. Most of the slightly limited accounts (Power Users, Replicators, etc.) were removed from the home version. Then there is that "Owner" account. I haven't heard much about it lately, but it was reported to be a MAJOR security issue in Windows XP. Since anyone who knew anything, knew the logon (and default password), allowing them full control over the PC. Maybe it was fixed with Service Pack 2??

Get XP Pro. XP pro will take advantage of dual core or second processors when home wont at all. Also it has more security and more features than home has.

Both will do fine but if you are running a LAN then get XP pro...other then that XP pro has a few other goodies but there is really no need to spend the extra money if all you really wannad do is game.

like Ssuede-y says, Unless you plan to set up a server environment with a dedicated server (and I don't mean a game server) you don't need the extra features of Pro. for regular home uses, the only difference between Pro and Home is that Pro does support 2 physical processors and includes more networking services and options. Now this does not mean that Home won't support Dual-Core processors, cus it will. The utilization of the second core in a Dual-Core proc will largely be dependant on the appliations(programs) you use. Currently there are no known applications that have been updated or rewritten for Dual-core optimization. with the exception of the above mentioned differences Home and Pro are exactly the same. And don't worry about the whole logon account issues mentioned above, those problems don't exist any more Save some money and get home, should be all you need.

Yeah, but how well?

I'm still not sure how those things work. I'm not even sure that they will work well at all...
