Hmm...I don't know what else is there to improve here. Is the new service pack confirmed? Not too sure about that either.

There is supposed to be one more service pack for XP then supposedly that will be it.

I am imaging all the patches packed together and giving us crap we dont want, Media Player 11 and not giving us stuff we want, DX10.

So instead of d/l 90+ updates it will be one big file. Since I dont think you can go buy a retail copy of XP since Vista came out I am curious if OEM's and VAR's will be able to get XP SP3

As far as I know, DirectX 10 will not work on XP at all. That's what I've heard in a lot of places. As for Windows Updates. I never bothered downloading them anyway. Initially I used to, but now, I don't do it anymore. I am just using the latest updates for Norton and keep my firewall On all the time, and I haven't had a problem since.

Originally DX10 was not supposed to have worked due to hardware requirements, IIRC with memory virtualization.

But Microsoft dropped he requirement due to Nvidia having problems getting its virtuatization software wprking properly. Once that was dropped there is no reason that DX10 could not be released for XP.

Also toward the end of Vista beta testing someone leaked a DX10 version that was hackable to run on XP by changing one line of code from a 1 to a 0. You can imagine Microsoft slammed that door shut quicker than anything.

Read it here DX10 is do-able on Windows XP
