Hey all,

is it true that the GTO of the X800 can be flashed to to something higher or is it only the GTO 2?

Yes its true, certian versions of the X800GTO and GTO2 be flashed to a X850XT, when you flash the BIOS of the card all 16 pixel pipelines are enable instead of the GTO's 12 and the core/memroy clocks are set for a X850XT. But there are only certian cards that can do this, most well know of the GTO cards the Connect 3D cards, but they pulled those cards and replaced them with ones that can't be flashed. The GTO2's seem to have a much better success rate with the BIOS flash though. The reason the BIOS flash only works on certian versions is the core they use, the cards with the R480 (X850XT) core are the ones that will usually flash succesfully, but there are some based on the R430 core that either don't flash, or can't handle X850XT speeds.

Just out of interest, how are these cards when they are left untouched, I'm going to have a 256MB one in my new PC.

it will be very fast. I think its on par with the 6800GT or maybe the 6800vanilla. but all in all a very very good card. im upgrading to an x800GTO next.

Pretty close actually, its closest competetor is the 6800GS, which peforms almost the same as the older 6800GT. They are very fast cards though, i think i'm getting one to replace my X300 as soon as i get the money from selling my old AGP X800XT on ebay.

Because they are $100 more. I have been hearing that the latest batch of Connect3D GTO's have been a bit spotty when it comes to unlocking. Your best bet i would say is to get whatever is cheaper. X800GTO's and GS' overclock very well and can outperform their respective flagship gpu.

I personally would get a GTO just because Nvidia has released a decent driver in 6 months.

Yep, Connect3D pulled the unlockable ones from stores, now all the new ones can't be unlocked

The GTO's do overclock very well, thats one of the reasons i want one :) by the reviews on newegg people are getting 520+Mhz core, and 1100+Mhz memory quite easily.

How do you go about overclocking it? Is it a utility or something? I've never OCed a graphics card before.
