Hey all:

Is there any way my dad can still be admin on XP Pro and still let me install programs but still keep control over my account without having to make me admin too?

Thanks, LC

There are a number of account types in XP, but getting more than Admin and Limited means some messing about. And even if you do mess about, I don't know how much freedom and restrictions the other types of accounts have. I do know that the Power User account type can install software, but apart from that I don't know how deep the difference between PU and Admin goes.

It's worth mentioning that I think Home user management is more limited than that on Pro, so if you have Home then the answer may well be as simple as no. But I don't know how much more flexible Pro actually is in this area.

Well, you can setup an Admin password, or another Admin account. Then just use it for install games.

Right-click on the Install, or Game icon, and select "Run As".

At least in Pro, you can add a user to a group via Administrative Tools > Computer Management. Easier to give you admin.
