had vista for ages and had no problems this has just happend over night (seriously)
ok two desktops wired via ethernet one runs xp pro(xppc) the other vista ultimate(vispc)
my broadband connection is directly wired to xppc. xppc is wired to vispc no router just simple LAN connection. as i say since i have had vista i have had no problems with this connection and have done nothing to change it to my knowledge. i have never been able to see my vispc on xppc but i have always seen xppc on vispc but this morning vispc could not show xppc on networking which means i cannot file transfer from xppc to vispc. the connection is still active as vispc can still access the internet via the LAN but it cant see xppc.
so what im asking for is how can i get my vista to see my xp again so i can file transfer. i will stress i have not alterd the network and there is no connection problems as internet sharing still works.
Sounds silly but sometimes networks do just get lost for no reason. it could be your firewall didn't like something and closed it down. suggest running the network wizards again and check firewall settings.
k i will try i have done the wizard on xp and diagnose on vista but it cant find a problem, like i say the internet sharing works fine just vista cant see my xp on networking screen
i thought i heard it wasnt really compatible with transfers from vista and xp?
Why shouldn't it be? It's Windows and Windows. There's all reasons in the world for compatibility to exist :p
like i said it worked fine since i got vista its only happended today where my vista pc cant see my xp, and ifit cant see xp i cant transfer files
of course but the main files to let the transfer work were different in vista i thought.
no ideas on a fix? vista trully is a pain in the ass
i dont think there will be a fix..
ffs fucking home network which is useless might just go linux and save my self years of problems which MS seem to hardcode into ther OS
