I was watching a new hope the other day and does anyone else notice that the large, long, rifle blaster that Chewie (I think it was Chewie or one of the Stormtroopers) carries is actually a German MG-34? Seriously, it is...I thought I was seeing things and I went back a few times over and it has to be an MG-34 LMG!
I tried to find pics or stills of what I'm talking about online but everywhere I look it's his laser crossbow...I'm pretty sure he has it for a little while in New Hope when they're on the Death Star that or I'm thinking of one of the other two (now I'm gonna go back and check all 3 movies)
Also while they're not actually using the gun itself (I think), does anyone see any similarities to Han's blaster and this 1920 Mauser pistol?

The first spoiler isn't showing.
I knew that, most of the weapons (if not all) were modified real life weapons.
Just like the Stormtrooper blaster is a modified sterling
Hmm that's odd the first spoiler was working after I origianlly posted (I checked it and everything too) anyway, if you REALLY wanna know what it looks like simply search 1920 Mauser pistol on Google image search.
Lucas did base alot of his things on some real things. Hell, he even reproduced some scenes from movies made in early 1900 Europe.
Victory scene at the end of Episode 4
Nazi German Propaganda Movie, Triumph of the Will
Also, the little scene where Anakin marches up the steps of the Jedi Temple during the purge is reminiscent of a similar scene in a Soviet Propaganda Film, Battleship Potemkin. The name where Lucas got stormtroopers is obvious, as well as the design of the Imperial Officers.
....well now I don't know if he's creative or not. Taking old film ideas and make it into your own movie...its good but I don't know if thats creative. Atleast the DC15 rifles are original, I like the design alot.
hmmm GEORGE LUCAS U LAZY BASTARD! lol but really the movies weregood. he didnt nned to copy off A nazi movie and a soviet propaganda film lol.

By now though (and even back in the 1970s) everything had been pretty much done before in one form or the other....TV, music, and movies from now on will be nothing but blatant rip offs of other older things but only tweaked to be different.
Lucas based the whole thing off of character archetypes...if you want the low down on that watch everything on the 4th disc of the SW trilogy box set.
Yet - using certain things and ideas from other sources isnt always a bad thing. Calling the soldiers "stormtroopers" and making the Imperials look all Nazi-ish only helped to further embelish the fact that these dudes were pretty bad...b/c subconsciencely you're identifying them with Nazis.
