Single. If you can win with it, you're really good. Notice basically all the Jedi Masters use single? There's probably a reason.
Why would they use anything else?
They hadn't even heard of the Sith for sooooooooooooooooooo long, lightsaber combat was nearly defunct.
Thats like us preparing to fight Dinosaurs today, while knowing (thinking) they are extinct.
Dual sabers seem more dangerous, if you know how to use them, though.
A Sabre-staff seems like it was meant for fighting enemy lightsabers.

I'd take the single hilt. The other forms are too difficult and specialised for me...
I'm gonna have to go with the two single hilt lightsabers...more intimidating than both the double bladed and single lightsabers, has the benefits of the movement of a single bladed one with the attacking power and strength of the double blade, also a benefit of it is the ability to control each individually
There's probably a reason.
My guess would be that since Jedi are "peaceful protectors" and the lightsaber is meant to be a defensive weapon (hence why it can reflect lasers) that that would be why Masters use only one...while the bad guys are supposed to use them as offensive killing weapons...hence the double bladed and whatever else they can come up with
Ultimatley, it depends upon which you percieve to be the most efficient style.
How good each one is at being both defensive, and offensive, without the individual wielding it expending too much physical energy in its use.
Each one has its advantages and disadvantages.
I am currently writing a private, unauthorized SW Novel in which the greatest Jedi Weapon Master (of the age) uses the single blade, the single blade and short sword, two single blades and a double bladed lightsaber to train Padawans in advanced saber combat. In it, he has crafted the dual saber to house all the known color saber gems so that he can create different color blades and different color blades from the opposite ends with a few turns of the knobs. The coolest feature that I wrote was that his double bladed light saber could seperate in the middle and become two seperate single hilt sabers. I am currently working on a double bladed lightsaber based on the design of Count Dooku's curved handled lightsaber (more elegant, harder to master, from the old styles of advanced saber combat before the time of the movies.) The dual-detachable lightsaber with modulating blade colors would be the Ideal saber for me. (especially if you could get it in KOTOR II or III.)

I'd be interested in seeing some sketches/pics of your design, Dracon.
Fyurii;3290682On Topic: Single Bladed. It is much more versatile in usage than a double saber.
Double bladed can only effectively defend + attack against one opponent at a time.
Dual wielding can be both a blessing and a curse. You are capable of a much wider array of offensive and defensive manuevres, but you lose the inherrant power that can be applied with a single saber.
Off Topic: Powerful strokes are relevant when fighting an opponent whom also wields a Lightsaber - you have to be able to break through their defense, not just circumvent it.
Samurai art of wielding two Katana - Musashi Miyamoto. The Katana is designed as a weapon most effectively used by two hands, and is much harder and less efficient to use single handed for attack + defense.
Musashi Miyamoto was legendary as a swordsman, primarily due to his creation and pure mastery of using two Katana at once.
*sigh* I miss talking with you, Fyurii...:(...those were the good old days...:bows:
