I can't help but notice that one of the most recurring themes in this forum involves comparing Sith and/or Jedi from radically different periods in time to determine how well they'd face off against each other. These topics - particularly those comparing Darth Revan and the like to more 'recent' (relatively speaking) combatants - got me wondering: would there be a technological component to these battles?

The lightsaber is one of the rare pieces of technology in the Star Wars galaxy that has actually had its evolution explained to some degree, unlike so much of the other technologies that appear to have been mature for millennia. Their earliest varieties were bulky things with external power packs that had little to no application beyond ceremony. By the time of Darth Revan and his contemporaries, the 'modern' lightsaber had only been around a short time (comparatively speaking, at least).

All of this got me wondering - were some bizarre event to occur that brought Darth Revan and Darth Vader together (just going from the most recent 'versus' thread), how would their lightsabers compare? Would Darth Revan's lightsaber be woefully underpowered, unable to even properly block the more powerful modern blade? Or would there be absolutely no difference whatsoever?

I'm not completely sure actually... I know that technology came to a peak at some point(can't remember when sorry) which is why it was difficult to get more advanced ships as it was more a matter of money and creativity than technology. Not much has been documented about lightsabers following Jedi and Sith 'full usage'. I THINK that there was none if any improvements as everything pretty much reached at some time. It's more down to design rather than th technology. Ask fyurii:lulz:, he will know.
