This thing has been bugging me for awhile now. What exactly happened to the clones after the Clone Wars? Was the program discontinued and the remainder merged in with fresh conscripts? Did the Empire continue using them? Or were they gradually killed off?

I mean without the exception of Leia's quirk about Luke being too short for a Stormtrooper, I thought while watching the old trilogy that the Stormtroopers were conscripts from across the galaxy. With the introduction of the Clone Troopers, it made me think of what they did with the Clones after the war. I know in Battlefront 2 there's a mission where you attack the last of the Jango-based Clones, but there's still a chance they simply use different templates.

Well, what's your thoughts?

Well in battlefront 2 it explains that the emporer had to put down a rebellion on Kamino due to them cloning an anti empire army, they empire crushed this using the 501st and afterward the emporer started to use more diverse templates than the original Jango Fett clones. The 501st was the only unit legion was the only one to remain solely jango clones

Erm, problem.

The clones had an accelerated lifespan, right? wouldn't that mean they would die like.. a LOT earlier?

Only at age 50. :/ course that would mean they would be out of the military at age 25 and inducted at age 10. So only about 15 years of service. The clone wars was only 3 years so that would mean 12 years until retirement and the galactic civil war was 18 years after that. So they would have been out of service 6 years before the GCW. Woo! Plot hole!

Perhaps they only rapidly grew until combat age as with the Kaminioan tech they could slow the aging to a norm easy

Ok, but what if the Empire continued to use cloning as a means of raising an army, possibly if the Stormtroopers are new, more stable clone templates over the Jango design?

Or did they think Cloning was too dangerous, and gradually switched over to a conscript/ volunteer army?

Well according to Battlefront 2 they began using lots of templates, later I believe they still used clones but were augmented with Conscript NCO's with the rank of Seargant as local command groups

EDIT:Clones would be needed as how many people would willingly fly an unshielded, barely armed Tie fighter which will last a hell ov a lot less than a CEC Yt-700 freighter or a Death Star Defender which has 7 SBD shields

Here's what I think. Well you know in ep3 the clones turn bad, so I think the empire used the clones that were left, and also did one of the following:

Cloned a bunch of stormtroopers

Or hired non clones off the streets.

Hired, you mean press ganged,I doubt that the Empire would hire(Except mercenary's and bounty hunters, and maby assassins when you come to mention it)

Or how about progressively abducting and brainwashing people to be wholly loyal to the empire? Thus you get to replace the clone army which will die very soon.

Oh, and clones weren't used as far as I know from the time of the Clone wars to the time of Grand Admiral Thrawn when he used Spartii (or is it spaarti?) clone cylinders.
