To cut a long story short, as soon as I installed the 1.2 Euro patch, the game ceased to work. It freezes as soon as the spawn interface is about to disappear and the game start.
Reinstalled game - ran without patch: works fine. Tweaked all in game settings, re-downloaded from different mirror - even went as far a O/S reinstall: still the same - game will run fine without 1.2 patch but freezes as soon as you are about to start playing, or after about 15 seconds even if I am still in the spawn menu.
Has anyone else had this?
All latest drivers for: PIII 1Ghz - ASUS TUA266 (133FSB) 512MB DDR gf4 ti4200 sb live! 1024 player
I have tried the renderer.allowrefreshrates fix and also installing 1.2 without first installing 1.1: no joy either time. I seem to have elminated every other possibility as all works OK for game unpatched but as soon as 1.2 is applied its lockup city.
Any help appreciated :)

Did you try the stuff in the readme associated with the 1.2 patch as far as video hardware or software rendering?
Rendering Optimization Billboard trees for GeForce 3-4. Hardware shadows on all cards (GeForce 1-4). Hardware skinning on animated meshes (wheels, flags, soldiers) (GeForce 3+ and hw vertexshaders cards). New option to put into videoDefault.con (if wanted) renderer.forceSwSkinning 1 (default is 0 = use hardware if available.)
Also sounds like you already have but make darn sure you have a non corrupt 1.2 patch to install.

Nah - didnt work - just locked up on initial splash screen instead. Back to the drawing board :(
