Here's my setup
AthlonXP 1.5 768mb ddr PNY Ti4400 WinXP
My normal FPS floats in the 90 area but the minute I turn on AA to even 2x it drops to 40's! I don't know what's going on but my system should well be able to handle this. It does the exact same thing with Anistropic Filtering, what gives?
does the same to me bud, and my setup is just about the same as yours....but anti-aliasing really does kill framerate...what I do is turn AA and anistropic off, and set the resolution in the game as high as you can get....framerate still runs in the 70-80 range and I don't mis AA at all. :cya:
Yeh I'm running at 1600x1200 now with texture detail at 80%
There's nothing wrong, just that, as FacelessCl0ck anti-aliasing robs about 50% of your fps on Nvidia cards and older ATI cards. The new Radeon's (9700 and 9500) only lose about 15%, as will the new Nvidia FX cards coming out in early 2003. The reason to does so is cause of the way AA in the older Nvidia cards. Basically it over renders the image by 4X, that is if you are using say 800X600 res on your display it actually renders the entire image at 1600X1200, which is where all your fps go. So forget anti-aliasing for now and wait for new vid cards.
