Hello,

I am a BF noob and had some questions.

First is slow down with bots. We have a computer network with 4 computers we play lan with (systems are P4 2.533Ghz, 512MB DDR333, Radeon 9700). We are currently on the 1.0 patch (having the 1.4 mailed), I was wondering if the 1.4 patch speeds play up or not? It is pretty rediculous that with 4 players you cannot go over 16 bots with systems like this--anyone discovered any way to speed things up with bots? I would like to get at least 28 bots and 4 players going if possible... any suggestions would be appreciated!

Another question is about B17 placement. I have looked at some online maps and the B17 is on Bocage (E6), El Alamein (G5), Gazala (B1), and Op. Market Garden (C2)--the problem is that only El Alamein has the B17. Does the 1.0 version just not have the B17 on the other maps or am I missing something (we play multiplayer=>co-op).

Thanks for your time and help. BF1942 is one of the best games I have EVERY played and have enjoyed the posts here. Thanks!

Ps- I would play online but am limited by dialup :(

Yes the 1.4 patch fixes alot of bugs, speeds up the game, and adds 2 new guns. There was a bit of a slow down from 1.31 to 1.4 but it's realy small, just map loading time and that kinda of stuff.

On most maps the B-17 wont spawn on Single player, but on multiplayer all vehicles spawn where they are supposed to be.

Yes the B-17 will only spawn on El-Alamein in single play, including co-op. Sorry, maybe u could try editing the maps with B-17's on them. :)

Update: I finally got the 1.4 patch and it solved all the slowdown issues. Last night we were able to play with 4 players and 36 bots with NO problems, that is 20 more bots than before!! I am happy the patch fixed this problem, but on the one hand it also makes me wonder why the code was not fixed to begin with?? Oh well, I am happy now :)

The systems are expierencing another problem... My computer has a Radeon 9700, but the other systems have GF4 Ti4200s from Asus... both before and after the patch the GF4's have a problem when new maps are loaded. The problem is the screen breaks up into 4 sections (i.e. game screen in all 4 quadrants) and the only way to fix this is to exit the game and start over. The cards have the newest drivers... anyone else have this problem, and if so how did they solve it? The Radeon runs perfectly. I believe my friends have their settings at 800x600x32. Anyhow... I am thinking we may be able to get 48 or more bots going  hehehe

I have also got the Battle for Britian, Aberdeen, and Coral Sea maps, could anyone suggest a couple other of the very best user created maps and/or a link where the best user created maps or rated and ranked--would be appreciated!

Also wondering about RTR... I noticed it said it had an updated rendering engine: does it run smoother/look nicer or is it just like BF1942? (Which is not bad at all, just curious). Any thoughts on RTR? Is it worth the $20 for the 6 maps?

Thanks again for everyones help!

Hi Acert93,

You should be able to play 64 bots with that setup, I play with 64 bots, single player and co-op on my machine and it runs fairly well, although I must admit when we have LAN parties we usually just throw a cheap comp together to act as server. If you are only using it act as server for multiplayer games you can get it done pretty cheap. All in one Mobo US$50-60, Cheap HDD, US$65, cheap case US$35, Athlon 2000+ CPU US$50, 512 Mb DDR US$50, mouse and keyboard almost nothing, only need monitor to start server so use one of yours and unplug it after. All up about US$250 - go for it! (OS - I think you can sort that one out yourself)

have fun mate
