Ive tried the 1.1 patch and also the 1.2 patch and get the same error. After the installer extracts the files needed it pops up with the language selector. I leave it on english and hit ok. The little splash screen comes up and then the error occurs. The main error says SEVERE and the text in it reads, "Couldn't find installed copy of Battlefield 1942."
Well, considering I just installed it last night and I can play it whenever I want..its kinda pissing me off. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem (No one has posted it) or if they might know how to fix it short of reinstalling the whole thing. Oh yeah, I did install it into the default directory so that isnt the problem. Thanks in advance, hope I can fix it.

Well I have had a similar problem with a warez version of some game two years ago. If you have the warez version you probably will not be able to install the patch as the .exe is most likely different than the one the patch is looking for. I hope I'm not making a poor assumption, I'm simply basing this off of my personal experience.
This is a legal store bought version, but was a gift...that shouldnt make any difference tho...that I got it as a gift that is :)

This is the third thread about this exact subject. The problem seems to be in the registry, where the install path in the registry differs from the installed location of the game. There are a number of reasons this can happen so I am not going to go over them again. What I will do is drect you to the relevent thread.
Here is one thread:
Hope this helps.
