Just bought BF42 and RtR. Game runs really well on my rig (see below), but crashes to desktop either after a minute or two or after an hour !! Suppose im lucky compared to some I have read about on different forums.

It pings me right out of the game, and sometimes my monitor res has been changed to 800 X 600 !!! Whats going on !!!

I have tried loads of stuff. Got the 1.4 patch, changed my monitor resolution, downloaded the PCI latency patch v0.21 for my via chipset (seemed to make it a BIT more stable) and used different profiles etc.

I've got the latest Nvidia drivers as well (44.03) for my FX Card.

WHY can I run MOHAA, Wolfenstein ET and Half-Life perfectly ?? I've contacted EA UK for support, will let you know if they come up with any answers (not holding my breath though).

I want this game to work. Its the best thing ive played for AGES.

I have in desperation posted this message on another Forum !

Graphics Card: PNY 5600 FX (256mb)

Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 1 (2600.xpsp2.030422-1633)

System Manufacturer: VIA Technologies, Inc. System Model: VT8366-8233/5 BIOS: Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG Processor: AMD 2600 XP, MMX, 3DNow, ~2.1GHz Memory: 512MB RAM Page File: 121MB used, 1129MB available Windows Dir: C:\WINDOWS DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0a (4.09.0000.0901)

Thanks in advance for any help whatsoever !!!

Welcome to the Forums.

Desktop Crashes are the most common error in BF1942, one that has an almost infinite amount of causes.

But I do know a solution to the desktop resolution problem: When you play BF1942 at a resolution that differs from your desktop, it changes your Desktop to that resolution. When you exit the game normally, it restores your desktop to its normal settings. When the game crashes, however, it doesn't change back.

try lowering sound settings, look here for some settings: http://www.gamingforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=9272 another thing that causes it is overheating of video and/or processor. good luck

Just Install 1.4 again. the things vill be just fine again . Yes, just run the patch again. That is all, Nothing more!! Knows it sound funny but it worked for me and my friends!

It is no hardware problem!!!!!

Thanks Fighting_steel.

Can you tell me, will I have to uninstall the game, reinstall then reinstall the patch, better to use earlier patch?

I am coming close to taking the game back (got till Saturday to make my mind up !) for a refund because of the crash to desktop problem. I have tried loads of things to cure it.

I can sometimes get an online game for an hour, but then it crashes. Very annoying.

Its such a good game though, just wish it was more stable.

EA support were next to useless, said to update my drivers but they are all totally up to date, and the PC is only a month old.

I think its the game, not a hardware issue (think you are right with this one).

Thanks for your help !
