No Fly Zone and No Fly Zone Day 2 are major lag infested maps, even with green dot servers. And don't get me started on Urban Siege. As soon as someone moves the Nimitz, you might as well pack it up and go on another server. Only 1 out of 5 players don't suffer from lag on those maps, and they're usually in the same region as the server. Best bet? Try getting on servers in your own country... better yet, your own time zone/state/province. Makes a world of difference.

Sound cards are very important in this game. I have a SB Live 5.1 as well as an Audigy card and the 5.1 is junk in Desert Combat. When I swap to my Audigy card the lag is lessened to about 10% of the level as with the Live 5.1 card. The Live 5.1 card will do better if you max out the number of channels as well as enabling hardware acceleration.

Major Pita, I have a very similar setup. . G7-VAXP (second board from RMA @ gigabyte (they suck!)), corsair xms 512ddr, dual 120 gig 8meg buffers, 64ddr radeon 7500, audigy platnuim, rest is boring. .got cable connection, however I still get rediculous lagg on desert combat, ie bashra's edge (granted the server had 64 players, however none had rediculous pings above 200), i had a ping between 60-80 consistantly throughout, yet i noticed that everytime i headed east (on map in corner), in any direction east (all 180 degs), it would lagg as if I was on 4800 baud, wtf? anyone know? direction specific lagg? with a ping below 100?? ALso, interesting story for you pita, ive been without my cpu for 6 months due to numerous bunk RMA's from gigabyte. . hows your board doing? i blew caps first time, next one they sent me couldnt handle compressed files. . I used to be running raid, had a 240 gig mp3 album server on oth.net, then lost it ALL. . at my peak i had more than 14k mp3 albums categorized, it was sick. . oh well, time to start all over again. . .

For those of you with nVidia cards, make sure you're using 5.3.0.3 drivers or better (if there's newer out there). Make sure your PC is optimized and that nothing is running in the system tray that doesn't absolutely HAVE to be running. (Turn off Yahoo Messenger, AIM, Quicktime, whatever else) I've also discovered that you can actually get BETTER performance out of DC with HIGHER video settings. For example, I originally played it with video set to "medium" with a res of 800x600. Lag-FEST! I tried upping the video, just for S&Gs, and set it to HIGH, then CUSTOM, with everything set to max, and increased the res to 1024x768. Now, aside from a little snag every 60 frames or so, all the maps but a couple run smooth as silk. Plus, some custom maps are just lagmonsters: DCM Twin Rivers is INCREDIBLY foul on that score, The Park isn't much better. The stock maps, though, all come through silky smooth and crispity-crunchity. :D
