thanks ditchhopper for the advice on Alcohol 120% it does work now without the CD and has improved the game loading speed a bit!!

apocalypse_kid when i uninstalled BF i did delete the remaining files in the main BF directory. plus i havent reinstalled my OS in a while so i don't think it could be that!!

I suggest checking your machine for software running in the background now, it may be another program is slowing your entire PC down, even possible a trojan or something hogging your Internet connection and slowing things. Run the usual anti-spyware programs like Ad Aware and Spybot to check it out (I usually recommend doing that regularly anyway to ppl cause you never know when something nasty is gonna sneak in your puter isn't locked down like Fort Knox.)
