I just can't get BF1942 to load in my PC. When I am prompted to "insert disc 2 that contains the file data3.cab" and I do it, the message: "specified component cannot be found in the media. An attempt was made to access a component that does not exist in the media specified." appears. What does this mean, and how can I fix the prob so that I can finally play this game? Specs: P4 2.8 512 RAM 160 Gig HD Radeon 9200 vid card I greatly appreciate any and all assistance.

it means that the .bin file was improperly made and you have to buy the game

It is a brand new, store-bought version of the game, and you guys are telling me it's defective. Super. Thanks EA. Thanks for your help

I have the exact same problem with my disk.... as soon as I am prompted to insert disk 2, I get "specified component cannot be found in the media. An attempt was made to access a component that does not exist in the media specified"... It's a store bought version as well... I read one of ApocalypseKid's posts about a similar issue and he said it was a defective disk problem.... Anyways, I wonder what the chances of getting a replacement disk from EA are? after all I bought the game when it first came out for $49.99. For that much money they had better goddamn well send me a replacement disk. There is no chance in hell that I will pay $30 more dollars just to get my game working again...

I was trying to load it in my DVD drive and thats when I got the message. I popped it in my re-writable and it worked. I also cleaned the disk really good, because I had it installed once before and it worked fine. Make sure of scratches and bad spots too. they will send you a new one if so (the manufacturer, not the store), all you need is proof of purchase...

You sure there is no way around this? Cuz thats bull, becuase you know every other damn copy in the store will have the same problem, you have to wait for a new shipment and HOPE its of good ones. Aswell most of the time they will keep the broke copies for months because everybody returns them and they don't bother .... Well I thought playing my favorite game would be fun ... guess the skack bastards at EA arent gonna let something crazy like that happen. I got it to 96% maybe if I just give it a few more runs it'll get there, *shrugs*

Well its obvious that not every disk in the store has the same problem because thousands of ppl worldwide buy it and play it. As said, it could be a defective disk, could be scratched or greasy, a good clean with some disk cleaning gear (not just rubbing it on your shirt) may fix it, could be dirty CD drive heads. I have come across batches of defective disks, a batch of modems I bought once had driver disks that were unreadable in about half of them (5) yet the rest were fine. Try copying the contents of the disk to a folder on your hard drive and see if it has problems copying the data across, if it has problems copying the data then it [I]certainly[I] won't install, most install programs are much more sensitive than windows exporer moving data around.

Danger667th if you have just reformatted and re-installed windows then it can't be a windows problem (did you use the same drive to re-install windows that you are using to try and install the game?) Another trick is to make the drive read the disks slower, reducing the errors due to disk wobble and mechanical noise, this porgram may help with that if your drive model is supported (note:only winXP users need apply);
