hello.

under my current system configuration (1.0ghz celeron, geforce2 mx400, and 256sdram) i run battlefield quite well online and offline on good detail and resolution levels at good framerates.

im considering upgrading my video card to a geforce4 ti4600, however ive heard stories about how battlefield does not run well with these cards.

is there any truth to this?

thanks!

You are better off with a Radeon8500LE 64mb or a Radeon9500PRO. GF4's just don't cut it. I mean Radeon9500 Pro's get better FPS than BF4 Ti4600 and their cheaper. Only $200. Radeon 8500Le 64mb get better FPS than all GF except for Ti series. They're only like $80. Both these video cards LAST too. If you get the 8500 model get the 64mb version cause it get's better FPS than the 128mb model. Odd huh? Well I hope this answers your questions. I hear a lot of people have problems with their GF4 ti's. You're better off with a radeon.

Hi Bondfreak0079,

While agree with you on the 9700 (and the 9500 value line of the R300 chipset), afraid I gotta disagree on the Radeon 8500. Given a properly set up GF4 you sould get better performance than the radeon 8500.

Also expect some replies from ppl who have had problems with the radeon 9700, there are ppl experiencing probelsm with both the latest Nvidia and ATI cards.

FYI, I run a GF4 MX440 with an Athlon 2000+ and get over 100FPS in some areas, average around 80.

So taskbot7, either the Gf4 or the radeon's are fine given the latest drivers and a decent CPU to take advantage of their performance. Of course if you have $US500 to spare you could always wait for the Nvidia FX cards due out early 2003 which will be faster than the radeon's. But definately get rid of the geforce2 mx400, oh yes, and another 256 Mb ram would go down a treat with this game also.

Have fun

thanks for your help!

i think im going to have to go with a ti4600. ive had radeon cards before, and have been very disappointed with them.

ive also heard horror stories from a friend of mine about the unreliability of the 9700s. radeon cannot make a decent driver if their lives depended on it.

well thanks again for your help, and have a merry one, eh!
