I recently purchased BF1942. I loaded the game and made all the appropriate updates. I also downloaded the recent patch. When I load the game i am able to get to the profile screen. But at that screen everything is frozen. The mouse is frozen. CTRL + ALT + DEL also won't work. The only way to leave this screen is to restart computer manually. Any suggestions?

Hi azrat,

Your computer specs would be useful, CPU, Mobo, sound,vid, mem, OS thanks.

Without this info I suggest that it may be a corrupt user profile, but that is only a very vague guess without the proper info on PC specs.

have fun

Specs:

Windows ME 1.0GHz Pentium III 512MB Directx 9.0a (4.09) 32MB DDR Nvidia GeForce2 GTS SB Live!

I was able to go into the profile page before. I created a profile. I then tried to log into single player and it kicked me to desktop. I went back and updated anything I felt needed updating. Loaded the 1.31 patch. uninstalled the game. installed it again. then i tried logging back into game again. But this time it always freezes at the profile page. I cant use any controls and have to remove the disk and restart computer to get back to desktop.

Hi azrat,

Your's is not an uncommon problem and probably happened when you upgraded the game using the patch, for some reason during the upgade your custom user profiles have become corrupted and every time BF tries to load them it crashes. There are two way to get around this. If you know where the custom user profiles are you can delete them and see if this fixes it.

Alternatively, and a simpler way if you are not familiar enough with the game to find the custom profiles, is it to uninstall and delete the "ea games/battlefield 1942" directory from your hard drive (don't forget this, it is important), then reinstall and apply the patches and updates before creating any custom profles. Then only once you have installed and patched, start the game and create your profiles.

Good luck

Well, I was able to delete the custom profile. I also deleted the directory. I then resinstalled the game, patch, and updates. The earlier custom profile is gone and I am not frozen in the player profile screen. However, I am back to my original problem where I get booted to the desktop about 10 seconds into trying to load up any scenario in single player.

Hi azrat,

Strange indeed. Can you start up a multiplayer game OK and walk around, or is it just single player that's affected?

Try checking your file VideoDefault.com and check this line;

renderer.allowAllRefreshRates 1, if it says 0 change it to a 1 and see if that helps.

Good luck
