Sounds like his video card does not support Hardware TnL if so it will crash to desktop when it goes to display the actual graphics of the game. I hear there is a utility to fool games into thinking your vid card supports HW TnL while it does SW TnL it's mentioned by name on this forum somewhere I just can't recall.
