Everytime a newly loaded game comes up, the sound is garbled and full of static for a few minutes then everything is fine. I am playing the retail game, but it did the same with the demo. Can someone help me?

i'm having the same problems with sound too, only to say "static" doesn't quite do it justice. monstrous distortion, clipping like crazy. sounds like a japanese avant garde music album.

i'm running

866p3 256 ram soundblaster live soundcard (sorry, i don't know the exact one)

i was having horrible problems with the video, but i got a reasonably cheap 64 meg card (i know, i had a tnt2) and the video is fine now.

my pc matches the recommended specs. i'm going to try fiddling with the settings, reducing the channels and so forth, but if any expert could step in and give some advice, i'd greatly appreciate it.

I also am having the same problems with the retail version as I did in the demo. I have the Sound Blaster Live! and am running on Windows XP Professional. I think that I have found a solution to the problem though. I went to www.creativelabs.com and downloaded new drivers for my sound card and also new drivers for my video card (just in case - only a NVIDIA GeForce2 GTS). Well, after all of this I rebooted and restarted the game, lowered my graphic settings just to be safe and so far the sound has not crapped out on me. But, it still gets a little crackly occasionally. But that is much better than what it was doing before. The sound quality is also now much improved. I hope that EA realizes that this problem exists and fulfills their end by releasing a fix for it. Hope I helped anyone out there that is having the same problem.

P.S. I don't know if it's relevant or not, but I am running an AMD 1700 with 512 MB of DDR RAM. Just in case there were any questions there. Adios.

OMFG thank you.. I thought I was the only person to have this problem since I have not seen it mentioned anywhere else. It was driving me crazy.. It did it to me in the demo too and I figured it would be fixed by release.. I have tried turning acceleration down.. up.. new drivers.. I have a AMD 1.7, SB live, 1024mb DDR I am running a Geforce 2 right now(updated drivers as well) as well for the next week till my Geforce 4 shows up so I may try what .in.the.jugular. did and lower graphic settings.. you don't want to play without sound but hearing this static pound out at you is horrible!

I retract my previous statement! It has not worked. Well, it did, but only for a day or two. Now, the problem persistently occurs again. Hmph. Damn this soundblaster. I sent EA Technical Support an e-mail/message, or whatever you want to call it on their site telling them about the problem. I suggest everyone that is having the same problem do it also so that they know to fix it. It is a big deal. A loud, static sound while playing sucks. I also noticed that it significantly slows gameplay. While it was working, the game ran much smoother. But I guess if you still want to give it a try, go for it!

Adios, .in.the.jugular.

Ditto guys!

I have the following:

Athlon Xp1700+ 512Mb DDR Gforce 3 ti200 SOUNDBLASTER LIVE!

Seems like we all have Soundblaster cards, these must be whats causing the god awful noise we are hearing, many times my ears have nearly fell off when the 'stati/pink noise' has cut in without warning.

pleeeeeeeeeeeeeease someone help.....:(

I've readed all ur posts, and my conclusion is very simple, the problem is SB Live! I have the 1024 one and i have same problem than u. When i play, at start sounds is right but in few minutes or seconds it sounds like a shit, noise and others. I have AMD XP 1800 with Geforce4 ti and SB Live 1024, if somebody knows the solution of Battlefield 1942 retail sound problem, report me please. I will do it if i find the solution.
