i got a p4 1.7 with 256 ram PLENTY of space on the harddrive a RADEON 8500 and Direct X 8.1

what else could i need?

but the full version is giving me black terrain, except for far off things, which have a little bit of color, and some things are blue/purple, like sandbags, small vegetation, and some vehicles

im gonna post a pic ASAP

what could be my problem? possibly a video setting i have forgot to switch, in my display settings?

Sounds alot like my system. Personnaly, I would suggest more memory. I don't know what your seting your resolution at, but I would 800 X 600 and try adjusting your sound settings lower. I sort had the same problem before, this is what helped me. Hope this helps.

i was already at that resolution

the sound settings might help, i gotta try it when I get home.

however, will the sound settings affect my visual problem?

and...uhm... as for memory, well sure it would help, but will going to 512mb change my picture, or just my framerate?

I have seen the same problem with tonnes of my friends and the problem was always the video card. Now my game works perfectly and i have a p4 1.8 and 256 ram just about the same thing as urs, so thats not ur problem. Now the difference is i have a radeon 9000, and in my opinion ur 8500 shouldnt be a problem at all but it looks like that may be the problem. I sugest you go into ur video card settings and configure it to the settings that best meet ur system. If all else fails then u may need to look at buying a newer video card because there are alot better ones compared to ur 8500. but as i said before i dont think your card SHOULD be a problem. A Radeon 8500 is a very good card.

Hi Ninot,

There are heaps of ppl on the forums who use radeon 8500's, so it shouldn't be a problem, however you may benefit from the latest ATI drivers. Also DX9 is available (shouldn't really make any difference though, but if it is a corrupt DirectX installation that will fix it). Also have you tried the adjustng the brightness either throught he monitor of gamma correct through your vid card, maybe everything is just really dark!

Good Luck

thanks for all the cordial replies, your a great bunch :D !

i do believe i have the latest drivers. i tried rolling back to see if that would help, but i'll update that again

Direct X 9 might help who knows, lol

If the problem is a configuration or conflict, and none of what I try works, my last resort before thinking of buying a new card will be a reformatting, probably sometime before i have to go back to work on tuesday. would that fix much?

could it potentially be a BIOS setting?

Well, after some tweaking of video card settings....

and drastically changing SOUND settings

:lookaround:

I CAN SEE CLEARLY!!!!

beautiful Kursk is...

thanks all

id bet it was either a video card setting i switched for another game previously (odds are GTA3)....or the sound setting. i tinkered with both before starting a new game....

now to get some control settings i like :p couldnt traverse my turret fast enough to take care of a panzer.... NEXT TIME NAZI, YOUR MINE!

I know if you run winXP and a nvidia graphics card u get the same probs in some games like GTA, this is due to an old d3d.dll in winxp, if u look in the readme dir of your GTA install it explains it and how to fix it...Might be same prob with non Nvidia chipset card... It needs a small update and your away. I think SP1 for XP as the same new d3d.dll.

If not i can send u the microsoft update as i have the english/us and dutch version on cd..

DirectX9 will also give you a new version of d3d.dll, so that maybe the easiest way to do it.
