Basically, I'm getting abysmal frame rates (maximum of about 20-40 fps, according to the console's FPS rating) while playing Battlefield, even in single player.

My specs are : 1.1 Ghz Athlon processor 1GB PC133 SDRAM Geforce 4 Ti4200 64MB card VIA AC'97 onboard sound

I'm running plain old Battlefield version 1.4.

I've read some of the responses here, and I took some of the measures including taking my sound settings right down to 11Khz, and also setting detail to low, and I've also tried turning my graphics settings right down.

The slowdown seems present in all maps, yet it seems to be bearable in maps such as El Alamein, Coral Sea and other wide open maps, in some of the more tightly packed maps, such as Stalingrad, Battle of Britain, and even Midway or Guadalcanal it hits hard and I find myself jerking about, unable to move very far or fly the plane with any degree of speed.

I'm unsure if this is related to the problem but I also have a very large delay when recieving chat messages in the game. At times, it delivers all of the messages in one clump. I thought it may have been a connection prob at first but my ping seems to remain around the 40-50 range.

If anyone can help me with any of these problems I would be grateful as I really enjoy playing the game and suck enough already without my system giving me help :)

Thanks in advance :D

Anyone who has a VIA chipset mainboard may get better performance out of older non Hyperion 4in1 drivers. I have noticed a significant increase in framerate since I installed Via 4in1 v4.38 or lower on my kt133a m/board. Some Via Chipsets have problems with Hyperion drivers.

Hope this helps :D
