If you know your way around these forums, I'm sure you recognize my name...and probably know about all my directX 9 problems. Well, I went ahead and formatted my HD and re-installed everything..THEN I made a system restore point just before I downloaded dx9...this was to see if dx9 was really the culprit as far as taking my AGP acceleration away...well here's the thing, I downloaded dx9, ran dxdiag...and..well, I still have my AGP acceleration :) ...which means I must've installed the wrong BIOS update, and thats what took my AGP away. So yes, call me a fool, call me what you will, but damnit, I'm happy dx9 works, my framerate and map loading times appear to be better. But feel free to bash me here, because I do feel stupid for making such a big fuss about dx9 and un-installing it, when it wasn't even dx9's fault to begin with. :cya:

Bash you? You have to be kidding, you're actually one of a select group of ppl who have come back and said "I have solved my problem, and this is how I did it". There are so many ppl who ask for help, get a dozen or so suggestions from forum users, and you never hear from them again. It appears they fixed their problem, possibly with one of the suggestion put forward, but they don't tell they have fixed it, or which fix it was that worked.

So thanks FacelessCl0ck, and also you other ppl who have also come back and let us know that we have actually helped you fix your problem, it's much appreciated.

See you on the killing fields FacelessCl0ck

WHY YOU..... I oughta....

:)

Like my hardware teacher said: "Don't Ever ever ever mess with the BIOS."

A class mate of mine did mess with his Bios and fryd his computer outright. So count yourself lucky.

Besides there are undoubtebly people who found it help full.

(don't mind the typo's, it's 2.33 AM right now,)

Can do the same with my Gigabyte board using a live update utility, don't even have to shut down to install bios, does it in windows - Oh yes, I also have dual bios just in case!

Bu-Fu why didn't you just clear your C-MOS? There should have been a jumper on your board that would have taken you back to factory settings. I mean a motherboard company wouldn't give you and upgradeable BIOS if you could get into that much trouble.

Oh yes they would Airix.

The CMOS (Copper Metal-Oxide Semi-Conductor) is battery backed volatile storage, power goes down by removing battery or changing jumpers and settings go back to factory default. But where do you think the factory default settings are kept? Yep, in the BIOS, which is non-volatile EEPROMS (Electrically Erasable Programable Read Only Memory). If the BIOS is screwed and the PC won't power up the only way to fix it is to pull the EEPROMS and pop them into a EEPROM Flasher, or get hold of another programmed EEPROM from the motherboard manufacturer. And if your board is made by someone like PC-CHIPS (Please nobody reply to this and say they have a PC-CHIPS Mobo - groan) you have no chance of getting a replacement.

Many Motherboards are coming out these days with dual BIOS, if your PC doesn't boot from the main BIOS the backup takes over automatically - once started you can then rewrite the main BIOS from the backup, very handy aye Bu-Fu.

Saw you on 3FL again Bu-Fu but it was full and I couldn't get on - damn.

Have fun guys

I guess I'm fortunate to never have anything bad happen then. Every time I've screwed my BIOS up I've just pulled that little jumper and everything was good again. I doubt I have dual BIOS but I don't know.
