Heres a guide on optimising the games performance.

Generally....grass is a major killer so i really suggest you follow the grass INI tweak which raises the performance in outside areas....by about 10 FPS.It really worked for me.also,shadows on grass and shadow filtering is performance killers.Also ,HDR seems to have a significant performance hit.

Resolution for me doesnt seem to change performance...its almost exactly the same on any resolution.

Also , this tweak here seems to increase performance for Nvidia cards with no obvious decrease in quality.

BTW ,whats your CPU ?

[Display] uVideoDeviceIdentifierPart1=0 uVideoDeviceIdentifierPart2=0 uVideoDeviceIdentifierPart3=0 uVideoDeviceIdentifierPart4=0 fDecalLifetime=120.0000 bEquippedTorchesCastShadows=0 bReportBadTangentSpace=0 bStaticMenuBackground=1 bForcePow2Textures=0 bForce1XShaders=0 bHighQuality20Lighting=0 bAllow20HairShader=0 bAllowScreenShot=1 iMultiSample=0 bDoTallGrassEffect=0 bForceMultiPass=0 bDoTexturePass=0 bDoSpecularPass=0 bDoDiffusePass=0 bDoAmbientPass=0 bDoCanopyShadowPass=0 bDrawShadows=0 bUseRefractionShader=0 bUse Shaders=0 iNPatchNOrder=0 iNPatchPOrder=0 iNPatches=0 iLocation Y=0 iLocation X=0 bFull Screen=1 iSize W=640 iSize H=480 iAdapter=0 iScreenShotIndex=0 SScreenShotBaseName=ScreenShot iAutoViewMinDistance=2000 iAutoViewHiFrameRate=40 iAutoViewLowFrameRate=20 bAutoViewDistance=0 fDefaultFOV=75.0000 fNearDistance=10.0000 fFarDistance=10000.0000 iDebugTextLeftRightOffset=10 iDebugTextTopBottomOffset=10 bShowMenuTextureUse=1 iDebugText=2 bLocalMapShader=1 bDoImageSpaceEffects=1 fShadowLOD2=400.0000 fShadowLOD1=200.0000 fLightLOD2=1500.0000 fLightLOD1=1000.0000 fSpecularLOD2=800.0000 fSpecularLOD1=500.0000 fEnvMapLOD2=800.0000 fEnvMapLOD1=500.0000 fEyeEnvMapLOD2=190.0000 fEyeEnvMapLOD1=130.0000 iPresentInterval=1 If anyone knows what, and by how much to change it by, to increase Performance while still keepin a half-decent look to the game heres my comp specs GC: Nvidia GeForce FX 5700VE (AGP 4x) Memory: 256MB 2.5GHz 512MB of RAM

you can alter the grass density settings within the INI file.... this file can be opened with notepad and some values edited.this is basically the code from which the game runs.

this document can be found in My documents>My Games>Oblivion its a file called Oblivion-configuration settings (in notepad format)

if your going to edit this REMEMBER TO CREATE A BACK-UP of this file

once your in this document click - Edit,Find and search for the word "grass" this should find the lines of code relating to the grass.

find the lines and change to the following values-

IMinGrassSize=130 (from 80) fEndGrassDistance=8000.0000 fGrassStartFadeDistance=7000.0000

Do this and it should raise FPS by possibly 10 in outside areas.And the grass still looks good.

this is also explained on this page of the guide ,near the bottom

BTW -There is 2 INI files for oblivion but the grass data and main graphical data is only in the INI file in My documents>My games>Oblivion......not the main directory

I would also like to know... I found this, its a INI. called Oblivion_default. it has a part in it called [Display] which i take is how the game looks, this is it;

[Display] uVideoDeviceIdentifierPart1=0 uVideoDeviceIdentifierPart2=0 uVideoDeviceIdentifierPart3=0 uVideoDeviceIdentifierPart4=0 fDecalLifetime=120.0000 bEquippedTorchesCastShadows=0 bReportBadTangentSpace=0 bStaticMenuBackground=1 bForcePow2Textures=0 bForce1XShaders=0 bHighQuality20Lighting=0 bAllow20HairShader=0 bAllowScreenShot=1 iMultiSample=0 bDoTallGrassEffect=0 bForceMultiPass=0 bDoTexturePass=0 bDoSpecularPass=0 bDoDiffusePass=0 bDoAmbientPass=0 bDoCanopyShadowPass=0 bDrawShadows=0 bUseRefractionShader=0 bUse Shaders=0 iNPatchNOrder=0 iNPatchPOrder=0 iNPatches=0 iLocation Y=0 iLocation X=0 bFull Screen=1 iSize W=640 iSize H=480 iAdapter=0 iScreenShotIndex=0 SScreenShotBaseName=ScreenShot iAutoViewMinDistance=2000 iAutoViewHiFrameRate=40 iAutoViewLowFrameRate=20 bAutoViewDistance=0 fDefaultFOV=75.0000 fNearDistance=10.0000 fFarDistance=10000.0000 iDebugTextLeftRightOffset=10 iDebugTextTopBottomOffset=10 bShowMenuTextureUse=1 iDebugText=2 bLocalMapShader=1 bDoImageSpaceEffects=1 fShadowLOD2=400.0000 fShadowLOD1=200.0000 fLightLOD2=1500.0000 fLightLOD1=1000.0000 fSpecularLOD2=800.0000 fSpecularLOD1=500.0000 fEnvMapLOD2=800.0000 fEnvMapLOD1=500.0000 fEyeEnvMapLOD2=190.0000 fEyeEnvMapLOD1=130.0000 iPresentInterval=1 I was wondering what parts could I change to make my game run better? performance wise, while still maintaing a half-decent look to the game. Thanks in advance. pe@ce
