Being an avid archer, I cannot help but wonder if there is location-specific damage in this game. Is there?

I'd like to know that too. Also, is there ever any model damage in this game (i.e. visible wounds after being cut)?

Yes there are visible model damage (in Oblivion anyways dont know about others), such as if your hit by an arrow it stays in your body and you can actually see it if you go into 3rd person or look at your characters stats by pressing TAB.

And i think there is location-specific damage but im not totally sure, havent tested it out much.

Yeah, I noticed the sticking arrows, which you can usually recover. I guess I was hoping I could cleave someone in two or behead them. That would fucking awesome. This game needs a LOT more gore. Or maybe I'm just thinking this way because I'd been playing Postal 2 for weeks, right up until Oblivion came out.

Well I hope there is location specific damage, it would be kind of unrealistic to cause the same amount of damage if you hit someone in the head than if you hit them in the foot. I'm sure that more gore will be modded into the game as well. There's pretty much nothing that modders can't do lol.

There must be location specific damage, i stabbed a man in the balls and he sat there and moaned for hours until he finally fell to his knees and died :nodding:. (j/k lol)

But seriously ive noticed location specific damage espicially when you fight in the arena. I took down oppenents quicker when stabbing in the head...

I dunno. Modding in the ability to sever arms legs and heads with a sword would require a great deal of work and may not even be possible.

Q:

Will Oblivion include any sort of locational damage during combat, where different areas of the body take damage separately? If so, how does this affect that character's combat abilities, and can this system be used by the player to gain an edge in a fight?

A:

No, we don't do location-specific damage. It's one of the things we thought about and ditched because there was never any reason to go for anything but the head.

That's stupid. If done properly location based damage would be very nice. An attack on the arm could cause someone to drop their weapon or if hit in the leg to trip and fall. Or if male, when hit in the groin to collapse like a rag from the pain. Anyone who has played something like Fallout for instance (yes I know it's a world apart from Oblivion but on this issue the concept is the same), would know that aiming for the eyes or head isn't always the best choice for a number of reasons. For instance, if I was fighting a Giant I would hack away at his legs to try to knock him down and THEN deliver a good blow to the head.

Speaking of Fallout, if they exclude targeted shots from FO3 I am going to be extremely pissed off.
