Sorry for the noob question but - Are there any boxes/crates/barrels in which you can store your stuff permanently bescause when I was playing I had this uber shield but it was damn heavy so I stored it in a sewer box hoping that I could retrieve it later. After a few hours I checked and it was still there so I decided to store all my "stuff" e.g. gems and potions there. Another 2 hours passed BUT THEN when I returned all I found in the box was a................ wooden spoon:confused: :banghead: . All I want is a permanent bank. Thnx :)

Do not put anything in any container that is not inside a house that is yours. If you do not own a house just put it on the ground,my Rusty Iron bow still stays in the same spot where it was left about 108 real world hours ago.:)

i think ther are 4 segments in the "time cycle" of oblivion.... morning noon night and midnight or 3.... if u notice sometimes when u wait it dosent go to the loading screen but sometimes it does.... probably resets chests for each load so u shouldnt put inside chests unless its ur house's or a modded chest or jus throw it in the streets ( pretty unorthodox for me :P )

The only storage containers that are truly 'safe' are in your house (with a few exceptions, that I can't remember off the top of my head). You can store as much stuff as you want in any of the barrels, crates, chests, cupboards, etc that you buy for your house, but the containers out in the streets, in other people's houses, in dungeons and suchlike automatically refresh their contents every three days exactly. Incidentally, that is also how long it takes for dungeons to become repopulated after you've killed everything, I believe.

There is a bug with some containers in that when you put a lot of stuff in, it hits a ceiling of sorts, in that stuff that you put in will not appear in the list of items. If you experience this, they're not gone - just clear some stuff out of the container and they'll reappear. For this reason, I tend to spread my stuff across multiple containers (also, it makes it easier to find stuff) - heavy armour in one cupboard, light armour in some drawers, potions in the crate in the basement, some weapons in the chest at the end of my bed... you get the idea.

Don't think that your stuff will be safe on the floor, either. With weapons especially, NPCs will occasionally pick things up from the floor when they need them - weapons and food, most commonly.

If you want a really cheap house with loads of storage space, grab the Anvil house. It's only 5,000, and once you complete an entertaining quest (I won't spoil it for you though, unless you've already completed it) it becomes fully-furnished for free. You can safely store stuff there then.

I put over 100 bottles of wine/beer in a chest in this one inn. (some of which were VERY rare) Come back later and its completely empty...

I didn't appreciate my full steel armor, 30 odd potions, dwarven shortsword, and other odds and ends being replaced by a shirt and pants... That's why I drop them in Frostcrag Spire (an expansion). I have all sorts of things sprawled out across the Vault there.
