Hey everybody,

I'm running Oblivion IV on this machine:

When I play, it has optimized to run in 600x800 based on my computer's performance. I'd like to run it in a higher resolution, as my monitor pretty much kicks ass and all the screenshots i've seen blow away what I'm actually running in-game.

Is this because it has no graphics card to speak of?

What graphics card would you guys recommend for not only Oblivion, but other FX-intensive games?

A good money-performance balance GFX card is the nVidia GeForce 7600GS. That's what I have right now; it cost me only $120 and it runs indoor areas at 30-40 FPS and 15-20 FPS outdoors. When checking automatically for a graphics setting, Oblivion defaults to "High" settings right away with this card. Search for it at Shopping.com -- that's where I got it, and it's always a good, reliable source. Hope this helps! I had this same exact question a while back, so I'm glad to try to be of assistance. Oh, also--here's a long list of graphics cards, ranked in order from Highest Quality to Lowest Quality. Keep in mind, though, that I did not make this list...I'm pretty sure I got it off the FileFront Forums. If anyone knows who wrote it all out, I give the author huge credit.

 • ATI Radeon 9600XT (SM 2.0)
LOW PERFORMANCE CARDS Whilst being a step-up from integrated solutions and very low-end cards such as the GeForce 4 series, these cards are not particularly powerful and will struggle with the newest games - in order to get acceptable performance, you will usually have to sacrifice in-game graphical quality. They are, however, ideally suited for light gaming or media systems such as a PVR.

 • ATI Radeon 9600SE (SM 2.0)
VERY LOW PERFORMANCE CARDS AND INTEGRATED GRAPHICS SOLUTIONS Few of these cards have the horsepower to play the newest games at an acceptable level of detail, and they may struggle to keep the framerates of particularly high-end games above a playable level. However, they are all capable of at least somewhat decent 3D accelerator functions, making them ideal for older games such as UT2004 and Quake3 based games, DVD playback and very light gaming. Just don't expect stellar performance, especially not from integrated solutions.

The above list is posted on a Sticky thread in the Tech Discussion forum. It's been edited over the years by various moderators (myself included), so it's pretty much a community contribution.

Come to think of it, it does need updating a bit.

Will a nVIDIA GeForce Go 7600 with 256MB dedicated graphics memory work with Battlefield 2 and Flight Simulator X?

Elvis,

The 7600 is a good basic gamer's card, so it should work fine with the games you are looking to play. If you want to be safe, I would actually spend a couple extra bucks and grab yourself a Gforce 7900 which will definitely give you the fps you need to run the games with ease.

It will. I have a 7600 GT(512mb), and it's able to run it quite well, it can run most games at full specs, and high-range games like Oblivion at about mid settings. Flight Simulator X requires at least 32Mbs of Graphics Memory, and Pixel Shader 2; both of which the 7600 has; so you're set for the graphics card. But If I were you, I'd pay a little more and get a better graphics card, so you can play game like Oblivion better.=p

I had a 7600 gt before and it really is a good card so if you are looking at a inexpensive card then that is a good choice or for not too much more you could go for my previous one a 7950 gt which would enable you to run it on high and it looks stunning with everything turned on but obviously i am now in the extreme performance range now and well that costs quite a bit of money! As you can tell by my specs i'd hate to total up just how much my PC is worth
