I don't normally post reactionary threads in here. Or, indeed, any threads at all. I don't even post here that much anymore, come to think of it, what with partisan Yankee politics and religious v non-religious smackdown events dominating almost everything these days. But when I noticed this particular story on the front cover of Shropshire Star I just couldn't keep my mouth shut -- literally, I couldn't actually shut it. An eleven year old mother?! I'm assuming I'm not the only person who's a little bit shocked by that. It was only ten years ago that I was eleven in primary school, and I can recall that males and females still regarded each other as mortal enemies; it was a rare summer lunch break that didn't see a boy burying a girl in a pile of cut grass on the sports field 'just for a laugh'. I'm pretty damned certain that no-one I knew at the time carried a baby around with them as they ran around in the 'fort' we'd made in the hedgerows.

But hey, at least they can be homework buddies, right? The crazy child is actually even looking forward to it!

But it was this part that made me dislocate my jaw snake-style, just so that I could drop it open even wider than it already was:

Her 34-year-old mother told the newspaper: "I'm not ashamed of my daughter at all - in fact, I'm proud of her for keeping her baby."

The newspaper said the girl smokes up to 20 cigarettes a day.

Is any better example in recent years of an utterly hopeless parent, or what?

That is certainly a hopeless parent, and judging from the link, its in scotland? I thought they had higher standards than that. Id like to see how the mother goes coping with it. But imagine the shit the child would cop in its later years about having an 11 year old mother..

Well that whole thing was a bit saddening. When I think society has reach it's lowest, we have 11 year olf mothers, whose mother also approves of the pregnancy. But it made me happy reading that, she's looking forward to it, and that she thinks she can cope with it. :)

 What kind of a messed up country do you guys live in over there? I've heard of 14 or 15 year old mothers in Los Angeles, but never a bloody pre-teen. That's disgusting, and almost as disgusting is her mother actually supporting it.

By the way...

Spoiler: Show
Down with the redcoats.

Edit: Mr. Jack, that's what you get in a moderatly socialist state. ;)

Emir Al-Azizheard of a 9 year old mother in South East Asia.

Look at the standards of Asia, then Scotland. Two very different situations.

Yep, it's enough to make you sick. The teens here may be humping like bunnies at the ages of 15-16, but most of them have the sense to use protection. Not that I think it's good, but there's nothing you can really do against it. I saw a case of a 14 year old mother on tv, but 11? ...It's just sad.
