GedIt's not so much what you say, as the way you say it. Your post is structured in such a way as to be extremely patronising to anyone who does not share your point of view. People pick up on the 'son' part because it is used in such a way as to imply that you know more than them due to your age. There is also a constant stressing in it that people who don’t believe in a religion are childish and that people who do believe are 'mature'. Consider for instance 'Bottom line: You will return, no matter how long you have been lost. Don't believe me? Whine, cry, run outside, but watch for cars.' Now from a believers point of view that probably sounds very nice with 'You will return, no matter how long you have been lost.' and probably conjures some nice images, however from an atheist point of view they are being told they will believe in it eventually and that by not doing so 'Don't believe me? Whine, cry, run outside, but watch for cars.' they are being childish. I suppose some people see that as an attack :uhm:

Oh dear Lord, you are correct. I am not being sarcastic, I never realised that. I am used to conversing with people who know my sense of humor, stating things I know they do not ever see themselves doing. I will never refer to people as 'sons' again, I meant it as a sign of affection, but you are right there too. I must seem like a stupid jerk right now, how do I make ammends?

GrantHalfnerMatt, you take offence to easily. YOU are the young one butting in to attack the established road, to push it off course. Very intolerant of people stating their religion.

Oh yes of course. How touchy of me to take offence to someone saying my beliefs are idiotic delusions which will certainly change when I see the light. Yes, I can see that I'm very intolerant of your perfect, unquestionably true religion . If you are what we have to look forward to when we inevitably 'find God', I think I'll shoot myself now and have done with it. I don't recall ever attacking your beliefs, yet you create a thread to tell me that my beliefs are a joke. And then you have the nerve to call me intolerant? Are you sure you're not 13 years old? Well you're damn right. I'm very intolerant of people belittling me and my beliefs.

GrantHalfnerHold just a minute. Since when did I attack anyone?
Since the first post of this thread.
GrantHalfnerJust because I am older than all of you, means I am bad, is that what you are trying to say?
No, of course not. But it ain't mean that you're right either.
Reread what I have said, sons, I clearly stated that questioning faith is good and it builds everything up.

Reread what we have said, dad. We clearly stated that we can leave without it.

GrantHalfnerhow do I make ammends?

no need to make ammends. you haven't done anything criminal. everybody's free to hold opinions as long as they don't try to impose them on others. experience or not, people generally don't like to be patronised with preaching.
