Well, my Father told me this, and I consider him to be one of the wisest people I know.

Here is the story of decision making.

It was the year 2005. America was in Iraq and Afghanistan and was busy clearing up talibani warlords throughout the area. One of these days, a special team of Navy SEALS, America's finest, best trained and armed from toes to teeth, were sent on a mission. There were six of them and so they were sent in by helictoper. They were let out on a field and they began their journey. they walked the kilometres. About 100 or so until they where literally on the outskirts of the city where the overlord and his followers of about 300-400 armed men. Those were not typically experienced men and no match for the 6 SEALs although of course the warlord's menwould have had better weapons than kalashnikovs and were experienced due to years of war starting with Russia.

So, two minutes away from the 'village', the team began their last briefing. As they concluded their plans, two boys with a herd of sheep came up approached them. The boys, 12 year olds dressed in ragged clothing walked with sticks as they herded the sheep back to the village. The only settlement for kilometres upon kilometres was that village up ahead. So the boys took a good look at the seals, and they were only a few feet away. The SEALs understood that if the boys go home, they will tel everyone what will happen and the mission will be jepodized. So they take a vote. They had two options, let them go to the village and risk almost certain response from the taliban or Kill them. So vote they did. 3 Automatically said kill them now. 2 hesistated and said to let them go. the final vote lay on the team captain who, with much thought, decided to let them go. He just couldn't bear killing two innocent 12 year olds boys. So the boys eventually went back to the village. And lo and behold, they alerted the taliban. The targeted warlord fled, and the 300-400 soldiers came at the SEALs. The group of 6 fought back and killed off 100-150 insurgents before each being shot to death. The remaining member, the captain, fled with multiple injuries all over his body. Another team was enroute. Aboard A military strike force helicopter. 25 navy SEALS men ready to cover the escape of the SEALS Team. So the helicopter approached the evac position and lo and behold. A lone talibani fired an RPG and shot the heli down. The death toll of the navy SEALS rose to 30 men. The best America has to offer died within ten minutes. So the lone Captain eventually made it to another evac site and was evacuated.

he later wrote a book about this and about his decision to save the 2 boys. The team could have easily killed them, they were trained to do that. But the Captain disallowed it and indirectly caused the death of 30 of his friends and teammates.

Do not double post...

War is hell, and horrible things happen during a war. You can't enter a war half assed, and sadly if you want any chance of winning you have to do anything necessary to win.

Interesting story. I bet that Cpt really regrets THAT decision.

Didn't think my story would fit in one post chief.

Oh, give me a break. When people decide it's necessary to become more radical (total war), then things always get ugly for the uninvolved...

... and that is just plain fucked. To be honest it's kind of disgusting such mindsets are still around. I seriously wouldn't expect it from civilized Western people..

In regard to the story, what about handcuffing the boys or knocking them out?

It's a good thing you're not the one that has to make these kinds of decisions.

At least that would explain why the world is still such a shithole.

You think you can fight a war like a bunch of happy pansy's dancing around in a field of flowers singing "joy to the world" while holding hands?

War. Is. Hell. They could have killed them, knocked them out, done something but they chose to leave them be (probably to avoid the negative PR) and it bit them in the ass.

Fuck yeah I do.

It isn't to the least surprising that America's enemies don't see a need to spare civilians either.

Civilians will die. It is a FACT of war. They day they can fight a war and not harm any civilians will be the day we don't need war anymore.
